Reflective Learning

This is the first time I study the Entrepreneurship for Hospitality. For this subject, it is different with others subjects. We are not focusing in theory part and the important part is do a group assignment which is business plan. We need to organize a business by ourselves and during the presentation time we need to present our business plan to see whether our business plan can attract people to invest or not. Lecturer will assume he is an investor.


The 3 important Taylor’s Graduate Capabilities which are Communication Skills, Interpersonal Skills and Thinking and Problem Solving Skills are the skills required to complete the group assignment. For the business plan we need to work with a group so that the communication skills help me can communicate with my group members properly when discuss about our business plan. Besides that, this is the first time we work in a big group and luckily all of us are having the interpersonal skills. Work in the group the team work is really important. So, we doing things together, we discuss together and done the business plan together. Of course, when doing the assignment we had face some problem and the thinking and problem solving skills is helping us can solve the problem easier.

The most challenging part working in a group i think is during discussion every member have their own idea. When all of us having different idea that was made us spent more times to discuss which idea was the best one. Because of it we had delay some times just started our business plan. I think this really was the most challenging part working in a group.

The best part working in a group i think is we can share ideas, having discussion with each others, help each others and communicate with each others. From those ways, we can learned different things from different member and relationship between every members would increase. So, sometime i really like to work in a group.

For the business plan, i am the group leader in room division department. Being the leader i need to carry my responsibilities which are make decision, give the member task and make sure all the things all of us are doing correctly. For me, i felt good when i am the leader because i felt that i had increase my leadership skill. This also good for my future. Besides that, be a leader i had doing something different with normal member which are assign the work and checking all the things doing by member so that when i gave the GM our department part work i can make sure that was correct.

In our group we had group member which are from different background. We had member from Malaysia, China, Indonesia and Korea. Because of it, we had different working style, different body language, different attitude and so on. I felt interesting and learned a lot when working with them.

When doing business plan i think that the part i doing well was design of the room and floor plan. I really spent a lot of time on design the room and floor plan. Besides that, i need to thanks my lecturer recommend me a good software to doing my design. Of course, all the things are not 100% perfect. I think the room size part i doing not well. I did not check properly normal hotel rooms size and i gave the wrong things to our GM. That was a mistake as well.

Overall, i think my thinking skill need to improve. It is because i am not enough creative in thinking and i always can't think something special. For example, i always need to get ideas from each others. Therefore, i think i need to doing somethings different to reduce my weaknesses. For example, read different kinds of books or watching some good videos to improve myself.
